"Walking home from my run with a friend this morning, she surprised me with the statement "You probably have no idea how jealous I am of you sometimes." I was genuinely caught off guard, but a few more sentences gave me a view of my life, from her perspective, that made a lot of sense. My husband's irregular paycheck, our general lack of structure, and the subtle but constant pressure on me to contribute more financially to the household was desirable to her. She saw in my life the "edge" that was missing in her own beautiful but unsatisfying "cage." She missed the spark, even as I missed the predictable comfort. Dissatisfied. Restless. Hungry for something different."

The film traces the lives of a handful of women artists (sculptors, singers, painters, drummers) and shows how they fit their passions into their lives, how they're supported (or not) and how it's affected their relationships. If you're an artist and a mom, there's simply no excuse for not going out to see this! The feeling in the room when the credits were over was a very pregnant one, with women sitting in silence, looking around at each other, and aching to talk about their reactions.

The question was this :

"My roommate took a new job with a company in town. She barely got out of training before the company shut its doors.

Now she's job-hunting again.

This has me spooked. Evidently her company kept hiring people right up until the point when they closed the business. I don't have any special reason to think I'll be laid off from my job. But, in case I do find myself job-hunting, I want to be ready. What can an employed person like me to do prepare for a possible pink slip?"

Liz's answer is here ... http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/a ... sage/19671 and talks about the best kind of networks, resume don'ts, and collecting feathers ...
